Bike & Roll to School Day

May 6

Overview

Bike & Roll to School Day is May 6 and registration is now open.

There are thousands of events registered around the United States. Closer to home, from Academy Learning Center in Monroe Township, Middlesex County, to Wyoming School in Millburn, Essex County, find events planned throughout New Jersey here.

Biking, and rolling to school encourages a healthy lifestyle from an early age. Active travel modes like bicycling and even skateboarding, can replace many of the short car trips that people make throughout the day -- including taking children to school. Adopting modes of active travel can build physical activity into daily life, which is always a plus and sometimes difficult to find time as an adult. It can also reduce pollution with fewer car trips.

In addition to physical activity, bicycling to school gives school-age youth:
  • A sense of responsibility and independence
  • An opportunity to be outdoors
  • Time to connect with parents, friends, and neighbors
